What is the 'PHI Cares' Membership program?

The PHI Cares Membership program provides benefits which protect our members from the potential high costs of air medical transport. It provides relief from the cost of co-pays, deductibles and back-billing when transported by PHI Air Medical. If a member is flown by PHI Air Medical, a member will not receive a bill or owe any additional payment beyond what we collect from your insurance provider.

How does this Work?

PHI Air Medical works closely with local fire departments, ground ambulances, law enforcement agencies, medical facilities, and physicians, to ensure safe, expedient, and lifesaving care for our patients.

What are the costs for the Membership Program?

The PHI Cares national membership program is one of the lowest cost and most affordable air medical transport programs in the industry. We offer individual, household and group rates. Our standard annual rates are:

There are no limits to how many transports or any billing limitations with our program. Household memberships cover all immediate family members residing at the same address and also up to three non-family members living at the same address.

We offer discounts for groups with 15 or more members and also city and county coverage options. Please visit the My PHI website and click on the Membership window to request a special group rate quote.

If I don't have medical insurance, can I still sign-up for the membership program?

Yes, health insurance is not required, however the membership rates are $100.00 for an individual or household national membership with no insurance. Please note: Medicaid members are not eligible to enroll in this program*

I was flown by another air ambulance service, will my membership cover their bill?

Your membership with PHI Cares relieves you of any additional charges when you or a loved one are transferred aboard a PHI Air Medical aircraft. Your membership does not cover charges from any other service provider. If I'm traveling will I be covered should I need to be transported?

Your PHI membership provides nationwide coverage. If a member is transported by PHI Air Medical, they will be covered by our membership benefits. This also includes transports by our co-operative service partners; Air Evac Services (AZ), Ballad Health (TN), Baylor/Scott and White (TX), CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Flight For Life (TX), CHI St. Joseph Health (TX), LifeFlight of Michigan (MI), St. Vincent StatFlight (IN), and The University of Maryland (MD).

If I'm transported by a ground ambulance to the PHI aircraft, will my membership cover the cost of the ground ambulance?

The PHI Cares membership does not typically cover any ground ambulance charges associated with a PHI Air Medical transport. The only exception to this would be if a member is transported by our Trinity Alliance partnership in Northern California, which does provide limited ground ambulance benefits.

How do I renew my Membership?

We send current members a renewal post card one month in advance of their expiration date. If you don't receive your renewal notice, you can go to the PHI Cares website and renew online using your membership number or you can call our office and we can take your renewal payment over the phone with a credit card.

Can I purchase multi-year memberships?

Yes, most states allow multi-year memberships, except California and Indiana. The multi-year rates offer a discounted rate.

What should I do if I have a membership and me or an eligible family member is transported by PHI Air Medical?

You should notify the Membership office if you or an eligible family member is transported by PHI Air Medical. This will help ensure you don't receive a bill for your transport.

How do I update eligible family members on my household membership plan?

Please call the Membership Department to update your membership any time you have a change in your membership household dependents. Your household membership provides coverage for all family members who reside at the same legal address and up to 3 non-family members residing at the same address. Please be sure to keep this updated to avoid any billing issues.

If I'm on a fixed income, is it wise for me to join PHI Cares?

The PHI Cares Membership Program is ideal for anyone who is on a fixed income, who might otherwise have to absorb the portion of the bill not covered by your insurance or any other third party payer.

Is PHI Air Medical guaranteed to be available when requested for transport?

In most locations, we have flight crews and aircraft on duty and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. While PHI Air Medical will make every effort to respond to a request for an air medical transport, several factors including, among others, adverse weather, the aircraft is in use at the time of the request, or aircraft maintenance may prevent PHI Air Medical from responding to a request for an air medical transport, so PHI Air Medical cannot guarantee that its aircraft will always be available when a request for transport is received.

How long is my membership valid?

Your membership if valid for one (1) year beginning five (5) days after your completed application and your nonrefundable payment is received.
